Photographs taken then are still preserved today, as clear as when they were taken. Photographs impart history and emotions. The founder of the studio Seisaku Suzuki (1893 – 1964) went to the United States in 1915 with an introductory letter describing him as a photographer, after studying photography in Yokohama. In 1920, he started a photographic studio in New York. Then in the following year, 1921, he founded Laquan Studio on 5th Avenue in New York. During his time in America up to 1930, he exhibited photographs in photographic salons in a number of locations under the name “Laquan”. Professor Hideyo Noguchi (who is featured on the current 1,000 yen note) had worked at the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research in New York and took a photograph at Laquan Studio.

In 2009, Kan Suzuki, the current managing director of Laquan Studio was awarded the Bronze Award in the Professional Photographers of America's Photographer of the Year Award, which is the world's premier photography contest.
All of the works he submitted for the contest (the maximum number of four photographs) were added to the association's general collection. This is a marvelous achievement of great distinction. Mr. Suzuki was one of only 61 photographers to gain the association's bronze award in 2009. The award is said to be one of the highest honors that can be achieved in the photographic world.
